About Me

My love for Sport Performance and Psychology began late in my high school years. I had just finished my recruiting trips to play baseball in college and began to have significant arm problems. What followed was a loss of scholarships, multiple surgeries, and many questions as to what my future held as an athlete. I was lost as a person and as an athlete for the first time in my career.

My collegiate career was full of struggles as I battled continued injuries. I was not ready to give up on the sport that I loved, so I needed to find a way to remain part of the game. While still a player on the team, I began to adopt a role as a player coach with a focus on the mental aspects of the game. I worked with my teammates, specifically hitters and pitchers, and began to understand the underutilization and importance of the mental approach to athletics. Following my playing career, I stayed as an assistant coach for the next 10 years where I continued to develop a holistic approach to athletics.

While coaching, I continued my professional development and completed a Master of Education with an emphasis on Guidance and Counseling. While remaining with the baseball program as an assistant coach, I also worked in the field of child welfare with families as they navigated very serious issues in their lives through group and individual counseling sessions.

My family and I moved to the Kansas City area in 2014, and I began coaching our children in their athletic endeavors. During this time, I noticed a shift in youth sports as compared to my youth. At an incredibly youthful age, playing year-round and winning at all costs seemed to be the priority in the high-performing club sports world, even over the mental well-being of the athletes. As a parent, I struggled to deal with disappointments, many nights of tears and supporting my children’s love of sports in this stressful and competitive environment. With my coaching and counseling background, I knew that there was a better way. I enrolled back in school and completed a Master of Science in Sport Performance and Psychology with the goal of applying these principles to youth sports.
